Default XM vs. Sirius

OK, let's get it over with. Everyone make thier argument. I would love to hear from someone who actually knows both platforms completely. Is it equiptment, programing, or marketing? All I hear is that people perfer the one they own. duh.... without much experience with the other. "I've rarely heard sirius, I prefer XM, why? cause it is all I know." I have a suspition that if I owned the other platform it would be equally entertaining. The Howard vs Opie and Anthony, or the football vs baseball thing..... Those people are platform specific. Very loyal. I'm sure some of you fall in that catigory. And what about the rest of the people? Let's hear it.

I have had both, and with one exception, I like XM better.

They are very similar in the way they group and format the stations that feature the different styles of music. With that being said, I think I prefer XM's stations and programming better.

It has been my experience that they both lose reception in and around mountains, valleys and rock ledge pretty equally.

I think Howard Stern is an ass, so not having him on XM is not an issue for me.

The one advantage to Sirius over XM is the NFL coverage. Sirius has a lock on it and XM carries NCAA.

Other than that, they're pretty similar.

that's what I figured steve. redundancy, that's what the US needs. Oh and stu, satelight radio. People seem to have pretty strong opinions on which one is better. I read in one news outlet that a merger is reaching final approval. Another called it a buy out. Sirius buying XM. I have read that sirius is doing better finacially but is still smaller than XM. I also hear there is some creative math going on at Sirius about subscriptions, counting free trials in new cars. XM is also guilty at some financial statement exagerations. They seem to be playing "nice" lately. Don't want to piss off any senators.

Yup, it's a US thing. XM and Sirius are both satellite radio formats with dedicated receivers. Broadcasts are free of commercials.

I'm currently sitting in a hotel in Butte, Montana, just about to enter the third week of a road trip through Utah, Colorado, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. As I filled up the rented Nissan Murano SUV with gas at a Walmart the other day, I noticed a crazily cheap offer for a Sirius receiver. ISTR that it was $40 US which is currently just over 20 Pounds Sterling.

Technology and consumer goods are seriously cheap here in the States, viz the Nissan which we're driving around in at c. $30,000 US whereas at home they're 33 - 36K Pounds Sterling. That's up to $72,000 US...!

At the same time, gas hovers either side of $3.00 per gallon (US), whereas in the UK, we're paying more like $6.90 per gallon (US). That makes running the 23 to 24 mpg Murano here as cheap as my TDI Golf back home in Scotland.

Heading up towards Glacier Lake National Park tomorrow. If anyone sees a pearlescent white Murano driven by a couple of Scots, give us a wave......
