Default Led Tail Light

I Just Recently Bought A Led Tail Light For My R1200gsa And Installed It . It Works But On My Instrument Panel I Get A Warning That One Of May Tail Lights Is Out. Does Any One Know How To Turn The Warning Off. Ifnot Does Any One Know If They Will Be Making A Software Update To Fix The Problem?

The LED's you have installed I assume are the straight replacement type you might put in any other bike or car.

For the 1200GS you need the type that have the in built electronics that fool your on board computer in to thinking that all is normal.

LED lamps use only a fraction of the power of a "normal" bulb, so the computer thinks that the bulb has blown.

For an example of these LED bulb look in nippynormans

Hope this helps,

Cheers Stu

Stu, I've been running a LED Tail light from Motorrad Electric for about 2 years now. As you say, it has the correct resistance to fool the on board computer. However my tech informed me that the latest software upgrade will cause a fault with this light as well as others. So far I've had no problems to warrant upgrading the software and hopefully I won't. Anyway I've instructed him not to upgrade unless absolutely necessary Sometimes I think BMW just doesn't want us adding anything other than BMW farkles

I've heard this before. Later models of the 1200 are responsible. I got the Brake! and no problems on the 05.

Default New GS tail light

My '09 GS has an LED taillight, quite bright, I almost decided not to install hyperlites. I wonder if it can be fit on earlier model years. Although the '09 is the same as the '08 in many respects, I admit I do not know if the '08 also has the LED tail light.

The LED tail light came out on the '08 model. It can be retro-fitted to the '04/'07 12GS with a cable adaptor, but you need to get the electrics 're-set' with a diagonstic by your friendly BMW centre. However, at least over here, they will charge you for the diagnostics time. Best bet if you really want to change to the LED rear light is to wait until the bike is due for a service and have it changed at the same time. This way, they'll not charge you for the set-up time. At least that's what my dealer told me.
