Default Can I cut the fuse off ?

I bought a Garmin Zumo 550 to replace the 2610 and was wondering about different ways to connect it to the bikes power supply. Rather than hard-wire it to the battery, I'd prefer to use the accessory socket I fitted to the bikes beak. Now as this is fused (5 amp) through the Canbus eletrics, do I really need to keep the 2 amp in-line fuse on the Zumo power cable ? It does seem 'funny' to need two fuses and if the bike had a power surge, it'd blow a 5 amp fuse as quickly as a 2 amp fuse. I want to cut the power cable reasonably short so as it's not flaping about and as the 2 amp fuse is way down the other end of the cable, it needs to go. But can it ?

I have the 2610 and cut the fuse out of the line. It was like that for over a year, no problems. I wired it into the rear socket (hard wired). You just have to be carefull not to mess around. I would leave the fuse in if you would be devistated if the garmin blew up. It would probably never happen but if it did you have to be ok with it.

I just bought a 2720 to replace my SPlll, and was wondering the same thing. I was going to cut the Garmin wire short, and eliminate the fuse, and put a BMW plug on it, but instead, justed tapped into my BMW acc plug's wires under the fairing, and left the fuse in the Garmin wire. This BMW plug goes to the battery, not the Can-bus, so it can stay on if I want. It also leaves the plug avaliable for other things. I just zip tied the excess wire to the frame under the fairing.
