Default Otimate III sp Desulphating charger

Hi there I have recently purchased a 2007 R1200 GS and would be grateful for any information around keeping the battery safely charged on my bike

I have an Optimate III sp Desulpating Charger which I have used and left connected via the permanent plug on the many japanese bikes I have owned without disconnecting the battery.

In the BMW owner manual it mentions that connecting such a device may damage the bike electrics ( unless its a BMW one!!). I have spoken to my dealer who whilst admitting they connect a non- BMW trickle charger and have had no problems, would not condone the use of it.

So my question is has anyone out there used this model of charger on a 2007 R1200GS. and hopefully had no problems.

Best regards.

Hi there,

I use an Optimate all the time with my 1200GS, with no problems at all.

In your kit you should have some connectors that go straight on to the battery, with a little plug that hangs off for easy attachment of the Optimate.

Connect those and away you "charge".
