Default fuel cells

Toratech has two new fuel cells:

a 5 liter underseat cell for both the 1200 GS and GSA - $525.00 - part number 044-0900.

a 16 liter two part or side by side for the 1200GS - $1,200.00 - part number 044 - 0950 - black only and not paintable

After initial installation the 16 liter cell can be removed and original body panels replaced in about 15 minutes.

Too much money, IMHO. The under-seat idea is clever, but I use all that space already (relays, HID ballasts, spares, etc.).

What they should build is a replacement gas tank that holds, say 35+ liters. I might be willing to pay $1,200 for something like that because it puts all the fuel in one place. Convenient to fill, good for center-of-gravity issues, and doesn't use space needed for luggage.

Otherwise, for $150 worth of parts, give or take, plus some labor, I can add a 5 gal. aux fuel cell that almost doubles my fuel capacity (approx 45 liters) -- the disadvantage of course being loss of the space above the passenger seat.

Touratech got shot down on another website for availability and price.

Tourtank.com has tanks for about $150.00. these mount on the luggage rack.

I must admit that I started this thread to get information about fuel cells and because I want to buy a GSA but am height impaired. The GS fits just fine but I think it is range impaired.

For extra fuel I currently use a nylon / canvas sports bag that holds 3 one gallon poly fuel containers - $45.00 total. I don't mind stopping the bike and pouring fuel and I don't worry about drilling holes, fuel lines, quick release, gravity fuel pumps.

My riding experience requiring extra fuel - Alaska ( Dalton Highway is a separate story), Yukon, northern British Columbia, northern Alberta, Iowa on a Sunday afternoon, eastern Montana and South Dakota at night.
