Question Headlight Cover

ALL - looking for an alternative to paying BIG $'s for a headlight cover for a GSA. Seems like I read somewhere of someone making their own. It can't be that much to get a piece of Lexan/Clear plastic (aircraft grade) as a DIY project.

Thankx in advance for any info.

This won't help much, but on my airhead I have a plastic-film-type protector on the lens of the headlamp, made from an adhesive-backed 3M clear film about 1/16" thick. I got it from a BMW dealer in Houston, but I cannot remember the brand under which it was sold.
It looks like a good product though, because it didn't noticeably dim the light and it seems very sturdy. It will also hold the lens together if something really substantial does hit it hard enough to break the lens (which might not be stopped by various headlight-shields anyway).

Because of all the road debris I deal with the headlight protection is important to me as well. I think I got my shield from Best Rest. It does an excellent job and if it wasnt for having it I would have replaced the headlight at least a couple of times by now. The asthetics are very good as well giving the bike a more industrial look but with a couple of significant problems. Without the glare shield you will get substantial glare back in your eyes at night and a lot of light is lost to the road straight down by the front wheel. I wouldnt suggest much night riding without additional lighting.
I think the xpel suggested by Marc would be significantly better at night but how does it hold up to stones and debris?

I cracked lenses on my R80, K11LT, and got a chip in my K12LT. Since then I've uses some kind of headlight protection and have not had any problems. The GS is the first time I've used the xpel product.

I've heard good stuff about the Xpel adhesive HLC on some other boards as well. Just ordered a set.

I use a Touratech one which is a plastic sheet fixed ahead of the light (similar to the eBay one shown above). The only problem is it scatters light back on the screen. It came with a sticky back plastic sheet which is supposed to be stuck inside the lower part of the screen but it looked naff and only partially worked. Eventually fitted a Touratech headlight peak which is much better.
