This won't help much, but on my airhead I have a plastic-film-type protector on the lens of the headlamp, made from an adhesive-backed 3M clear film about 1/16" thick. I got it from a BMW dealer in Houston, but I cannot remember the brand under which it was sold.
It looks like a good product though, because it didn't noticeably dim the light and it seems very sturdy. It will also hold the lens together if something really substantial does hit it hard enough to break the lens (which might not be stopped by various headlight-shields anyway).

I think the xpel suggested by Marc would be significantly better at night but how does it hold up to stones and debris? Graham |

I cracked lenses on my R80, K11LT, and got a chip in my K12LT. Since then I've uses some kind of headlight protection and have not had any problems. The GS is the first time I've used the xpel product. // marc |

I use a Touratech one which is a plastic sheet fixed ahead of the light (similar to the eBay one shown above). The only problem is it scatters light back on the screen. It came with a sticky back plastic sheet which is supposed to be stuck inside the lower part of the screen but it looked naff and only partially worked. Eventually fitted a Touratech headlight peak which is much better.
