I read several threads and it is mentioned that some helmets fit - others don't. Mine don't. Why would BMW build a case that will not fit an XL helmet? Tried putting in any number of ways - no luck. Any ideas.

Same here Marc. With about 40,000 miles on the bike I don't think I've ever ridden around with the top case on the bike unless I'm on a trip, in which case it's packed. Occasionally I go to the store with side cases on, in which case I'll put the helmet in the right side case while shopping. But to have the cases on the bike empty, just to hold your helmet I guess some leave the cases, including the top case, on the bike at all times. I generally just place my helmet on the handle bar & gauge cluster just behind the windshield with my jacket on top. If I were worried about thieft the dual locks that go just under the license plate would be a good option. Jim |

I use a Givi 52 litre top-box. It easily takes two full face crash helmets.
When travelling, we use the side cases for just about everything and try an leave the top-box as empty as possible, just documents. When we pull up to have a look round a town/village, we pop the helmets in the top box and we are unhindered by them. The only time I don't ride with the top-box on, is when I'm off road. Cheers

I installed the helmet lock from Santa Cruz BMW to the frame. Now I do not need to store the helmet in the top case. i have a Shuberth C2 that with the visor open will just fit in the Adventure aluminum top case.

An XL Schuberth C2 will not fit in any BMW case for the GS, at least I have not been able to make it fit. As to when I use a case, the top case is mounted most of the time, side rarely. I ride to work and need to carry my work clothes in the case, get off bike, would like to leave helmet with it instead of carrying into the office, but it wont fit. As for locking it to the bike, cant do it with the Schuberth, no D ring and I wont cable lock it to the bike and leave it unattended in a parking garage.

BMW bags are too small for serious packing- unless you are expert in packing small. They hold approx 85 liters.-No way my XXL full face will go in.
I have the Jesse Safari bags and love them. For the helmet, I use a license plate lock for 2 helmets. The way to go for general protection. If you want to keep them out of site and weather, the GIVI 52 is super. Used one last summer on trip and love it. Comes OFF/ON easily too. Can get 2 full face helmets in it and it looks good. |

My XL shoei fits in my right side case. My wife's helmet fits in the top case. I don't like the helmet locks under the seat, but I use them if the the cases are full. I ride with side cases 50% of the time, and no cases the rest of the time. I put the top case on only when the wife is on the bike, or to go shopping.
