Default Tire Pressure

What pressure are you carrying on your Adventure. Do you follow the owners manuel guidelines?

I found that I am more comfortable with lower than reccommended presures, but I don’t do many high-speed motorway miles. Usually the bike feels best with 2,1 bar (30,4 psi) front and 2,4 (34,8) rear. These values inspire a lot of confidence, more so on the wet, and allow to tackle gravel or fire roads without adjusting the pressure first.

I weigh 83 kg (183 US pounds) and ride a regular 1200 gs („Sport“), not the GSA.

Better tire life on road with higher psi in front - 40psi. 42 psi in rear is about right. The trade off is you will have to lower the psi off road to get optimum traction (22psi ft, 24psi rr).

I'm a believer in higher tire pressure for longer tire life and better protection of the rims and tire. I was advised to do this by a "BMW Motorcycle Engineer"! I spoke directly to him on a number of subjects. He had volunteered to fill in for the guy that usually works the phone. I run about 2 lbs. under the max on the sidewall. Tom

Agreed the higher the pressure on your tires the longer they will last. I hear if you releave pressure you can grip to the road better but this will eventually ruin your tires anyway.
