I've signed up for a Reg Pridmore "CLASS" track day in October (should be entertaining on an Adventure!) and am wondering what might be a decent tire for the event. This will be my first track day ever, so I don't think I really need a true sport tire. I used to use Metzeler Z6's on my R12RT and loved them. Would these be a sufficient choice? Any other suggestions?

Not a bad idea Marc. I've only had the GS for about three months or so, and at 6500 miles so far, the stock Conti Trail Attacks will probably be worn enough to warrant the change by my Oct. track day. Besides, the class requires near new (95% new) tires. At this early point in my GS relationship, I don't really know what my normal setup preference is, so I thought I might give the Z6's a try since they're familiar to me. Since I don't do any off-roading (at this point, at least), I don't know if I should buy something like the Tourance, but it would obviously last longer than the Z6, I guess. Though I don't really have any complaints about the Conti's, I'd like to try something else next.

I've used the dunlop that came on the bike (didn't like them), Tourance front and rear, an anakee on the front, and a TKC-80 on the front. I understand your tire dilemma.
Currently I'm using a TKC-80 on the front and a Tourance on the back. I'll likely stick with the TKC-80 for the front, but may try a Conti trail attack on the rear for no particular reason. I used the Z6 on my RT and found it the best tire for that bike as it gave it neutral handling. Decisions, decisions. Whatever you try have a great CLASS! // marc |
