A pair of 2x4 to hold the brake disk off of the ground and 2 or 3 good tire irons plus a bead breaker and a way to balance the wheel afterwords is about all you need. 2x4s can also be used to break the bead http://www.ibmwr.org/otech/beadbreaker.html
I don't like working on the ground (old fart disease ) so I use a tire changing stand. Lets see... I use these:http://happy-trail.com/ProductInfo.a...ctid=HTP-TBB-1 http://www.mikesracingproducts.com/mrp_web_site_002.htm http://www.pitposse.com/16sttito.html http://www.marcparnes.com/BMW_Motorc...l_Balancer.htm Or you can splurge and buy a tire changing machine. The downside there is storage space. The stuff that I have can all be put away once the tires are mounted. // marc |

May sound strange, but in an pinch --- ride at a slow speed with the flat while taking tight sharp turns. You will find the weight of the bike will role the tire and break the bead.
Haven't had a need with my 07 R1200GS but did with my Cagiva Gran Canyon several times and worked every time. Be careful not to allow the rim to touch the surface of the street.

Good references . . . I just had the front changed, but think I'll be in the DIY mode for the next one. If I only would have been motivated 6-7 yrs ago to be in the DIY mode, I could have paid for the tools already. Thought I was being good guy and helping the local MC shops; economy has me thinking about my account now!
