I have a friend in the San Francisco Bay Area who swears by Distanzias on his GS and he's also got a set on the road wheels of his KTM 640.
Having followed him while I was riding a rented GS on some of the Bay Area's finest goat tracks, I can confirm that at least on dry pavement and some very light loose surface use, the Distanzias obviously provide lots of grip; although I suspect that his Ohlins shocks on both ends of the bike help a lot as well.
However, I've never ridden on the Avons. My own favourites so far are Dunlop D607. They're grippier than a very grippy thing and deliver a huge 4.5K miles out of a rear tyre on our fine and very abrasive Scottish roads and of course being Scotland we spend a lot of time riding in the wet.
