Cool Metzler Tourances?

I am new to GS tire recommendations and use...but is the Metzler a tire that will handle fire roads and some off road? Will the TKC80 handle paved canyon rides and does it make a lot of noise? What about under wet conditions? I know these are "old" questions and appreciate your patience with me!

Thanks...Phil:::

PS...What tires come on the 2007 Adventure/spoke wheels?

Default Metzler

My Tourances seem to handle fire roads and gravel fine.
I dont ride off road that agressively and limit it to dry conditions.

At my skill level I wasnt comfortable with the Tourance in the Mud or on Sandy surfaces. If you slow way down youll get thru but with knobbies it would be way more fun.

To give you a reference frame Id place my skill level at slightly below average in the GS crowd. Of course the GS and BMW crowd is the most skilled and experienced Ive seen. So the bike and company have raised the bar on what I thought was possible for safety, distance and just general skill. You have to call your own comfort level.

On a wet paved road the GS and Tourance hold great. I was really pleasd with the handling in the rain.

While at the Bike show this year the Metzler rep showed me 4 tires for the GS.

The Tourance is OEM and rated for 90% On road 10% off. ( perfect for Ohio "roads")
The Roadtec Z6 for all on road. Its the OEM on the sport tourers
Then the Karoo for 10% on 90% off
And KarooT for 20% on 80% off

Not sure about the 07 Adventure but the HP2 comes with the Karoo T.

The GS is so versatile that no one tire will do it justice. I think it will always be a compromise. Im sticking with the Tourance because it fits how I use the bike. The future no doubt holds several sets of rims reay to go out and play.

BTW Is anyone switching back and forth and how long does it take ?
Im thinking of a set of rims with discs and knobbies .

Tourances are excellent. Have put many aggressive canyon miles on them as well as Rocky Mountain dirt/rock forest roads and they never gave me hesitation. Also like how long they last.

Will find several tire brands coming with the '07 ADV's. Mine came with Anakees.

Despite many GSers, I use Anakees on mine and I am very happy with them.
I once had a Tourance in front and it had a factory malfunction.. Michelin is better in my humble opinion.

For Off summer time I just bought a set of KarooT. I´ll let you know then.. but I will never risk to wear them when it may rain.

Default PSI in drit??

Didn't see any pressure rec's for dirt. I ride So. Cal. fire roads(Mostly DG.) and thought of lowering tire pressure to about 25f 20r. Is that a good starting point for the Metz's?
Did one run at 35f 30r and was not impressed with grip. I do not as of yet have a compressor to return the tires to street pressure for the ride home, so until then I'm looking for something that will work.

my 07 came with anakee's. first time i tried them. not a bad tire but i have found that i ca't lean them over as far as i do on tourance's. anakee's are better for offroad because of the wider grooves. tkc 80 tires i love them. they handle on the road great and wet pavement is 8 out 10. my choices are tourance's for traveling and tkc 80 for everything else. just my 2 cents

I have tourance on my bike now. I replaced a set of TKC-80s that I rode to Alaska.

The TKCs make a little noise. I never felt the least bit uncomfortable with the grip of the TKCs, pavement or gravel. I didn't do any real off road stuff.

The TKCs were better on gravel than the tourance, but they went away pretty fast. The tourance have about 6,000 miles on them and the rears are starting to show some wear. I'll bet I get 10k out of it.

Default Tourances

I replaced the Tourance rear tire on my '05 when it had over 12k miles on it only because it developed a bad wear spot on it. The front Tourance is ready for replacement at just under 18k miles on it.

Most of my riding is on pavement with a trip off road every now and then. Love the tires and the GS!

There's a new Tourance out now, the EXP, which may suit your riding style, - http://www.metzelermoto.co.uk/web/ca.../enduro_street

If you're thinking of fitting these you might as well go the whole hog and buy 020's or Pilot Roads. At least the Ankee & (original) Tourance had some limited off-road ability.
