Default Michelin Anakee 2

Rear tyre of my 08 GS Adventure is coming to the end of it's life after 7,300 miles - needed track days on tyres as it has a flat now in the middle!

The OEM tyres are Conti Trail Attacks, which I have found OK, but, not as impressive in the wet as the 3 sets of Metzeler Tourance tyres that I had on my previous 06 GS Adventure.

Looking at Michelin Anakee 2, which claim to be brilliant on wet roads but no knowledge, although I see that BMW are fitting them as OEM.

I'd appreciate any comments. I ride 100% on road and do about 6,000 miles per annum - mainly solo touring.

Thanks all.

I concur that the Michelin Anakee 2 are great in rain. I've had mine on a 2005 R1200GS for about 2000 miles now and the wear is minimal.

Default Anakee

2007 R1200GS
Just finished a 1500 mile ride on a new set of Anakee 2's. The only thing I didn't like about the tire is they hummmm. They are smooth and handle very well but they hummm. At first I thought they over steered a bit but as soon as I got used to the new feel I loved the way they dive into the curve. Traction was excellent on dry and wet pavement. At the end of the ride I could not see any wear on the tire..... so far so good.

I have to agree that the Anakee's are a little on the loud side, in addition they seem to like to follow tar snakes more that the Tourance.

I went through three sets of Anakees 2, having used them for two-up alpine journeys, plenty of sunday rides on gravel roads and even an odd trackday.

They are plain excellent on wet roads, and bettter the most on gravel. But you have to accept that compared to EXPs or TrailAttacks the Anakees feel inprecise and slightly unstable, a little bit like TKCs (but no to that extent).

Overall, they are not exactly sporty, but very well balanced tires for anyone who rides regardless of weather or road surface. Pretty much like the GS itself...

I am on EXPs now and am enjoying the new-found precision and surefootness they blessed my GS with.

Default Tires

2007 R1200GS

Ok .... almost 8k miles on these tires. There is still some tread but I ride in the rain a lot so I usually swap them out early. The front tire still has 1-2k miles left but it has started to cup a little. Im a fairly aggressive rider so it would be safe to say a normal rider could get 2-3k more miles on these tires.

Here is a photo of the original tire and a new tire. You can see its almost down to the wear bar but I hear the steel belts are not far away.

I highly recommend these tires for pavement (wet or dry) and basic off road riding. (gravel and packed dirt)

Default Michelin Anakee 2

I've had Tourances, Anakees and Trail Attacks. I'm currently on a set of EXPs. For me so far, I've enjoyed the Anakees the best and will go back to them as soon as these tires are shot.
