Had these in use for 12000kms so far with about 60% wear. Riding has been mixed but mainly on-road. Warm up is very quick and the tyres exhibit a nice neutral feel whenever a change of direction is made. Grip in dry weather sport riding is excellent allowing the crash bars to contact the ground on both sides despite max preload front and rear. Having said that, the original Trail Wings allowed the same angles but with far less feedback and stability. Wet weather grip is far far better than the Trail Wings or Tourances allowing high levels of confidence at light to mid (40 degree) lean on clean wet bitumen.
Off-road they're OK but nowhere near as good as the Trail Wings. Hope this helps Rob |

I too like the Pilot Roads, they give me a lot more confidence in the wet.
I have just had to replace the rear one after 10000Km and it looks like the front is fine for quite a distance yet. I was going to put the new Pilot Road 2 on but they are not available for the front in GS sizes only for the rear ??? |

I can't speak for the GS (I have only had it for a few weeks) but my other bike is a Honda Blackbird and Pilot Roads gave me 25,000km on the rear, and were fantatstic in the rain. I now have Pilot Road 2 CT's on the BB and they have even better grip, but I'm not sure how long they will last. They have 5500km of hard Blue Ridge mileage & still look almost new. I have Tourances EXP on the GS front, and a regular Tourance on the rear. They feel fine on the road so far, but I haven't had much time on them.

Tires are such a personal "thing". Everyone has their favorite brands and tread designs, so you really need to ride a few different brands on bikes similar to your bike to help you decide which way you want to go.
Both my '05 F650GS and my '07 12GS have/had Metzeler Tourance tires on them and they seem fine if you stayed 90% on the pavement. They averaged ~6000 miles before needing replacement. My '07 Triumph Tiger-ABS came with Michelin Pilot Roads (not the 2's) but I switched those out for the Pirelli Scorpion Syncs as the Michelins did get a bit "squarely" on slick pavement and in deep sand/mud. Also the rears squared off pretty quickly (~3500 miles) . The Scorpion Syncs are a nice dual sport tire even though they are not sold as such...and IMHO, better than the Tourances or the Pilot Roads on our mountain roads which are mostly bumpy pavement or sand. They come in many sizes...even 180mm rears and are original equipment on many Ducattis. However with all that said, if dirt is not your thing, then IMHO you really can not beat a set of Michelin Pilot Roads 2's. I had them on the Triumph briefly before the Pirelli Scorpion Syncs, and they are currently on my '08 K1200GT which is where they really shine...high speed sport touring. I have also tried Metzeler Z-6's and Bridgestone Battlewings on my RT, but IMHO they don't compare to the Pilot Road 2's.Having just re-read this post...I guess that makes everything about as clear as mud...sorry about that. So I guess I'll go back to the advise of trying as many different tires on your buddies bikes that are similar to your bike and then lay down that hard earned $$$$ and "spin the wheel"...it's always somewhat of a gamble. ![]() Disclaimer: The above "ramblings" are only one person's opinion (mine) and as such "your mileage may vary".
