Default Tire suggestion for dirt

Thinking of buying a set of wire wheels for dirt. Now my question is, what kind of tires do I put on it?

I'll be using it on fire roads, nothing technical, maybe some snow, and wet roads at the extreme. I'll be riding about 80 miles to get to the dirt. And this will not be used for freeway commuting.

Also should I just spend $700 more to get the ABS ring and front rotors put on it? Is it that much more convenient? I was just thinking of swaping from my other set.

Thanks

I thought I'd bring this old thread back to life with some TKC-80 comments. I run a TKC-80 on the front of my '05 keeping the air pressure around 32 PSI. The vast majority of the miles are road miles. 8,000 miles later the tire still has lots of life.

Yeah, the wear isn't even. I've a new TKC-80 sitting in the garage. Not sure when I'll mount it. The max speed on that tire was probably in the 90-95 MPH range.

There's a video on youtube of a guy out of control going downhill on a dirt trail. He forgot to turn off the ABS. If your adding ABS to primarily use off-road, don't.

I put over 4,500 miles on the Karoo T set. They were hyway smooth w/ some humm at speeds. Road the TAR-07 for all four days & really surprised the KLR group I was w/. They were designed w/ a steel belt inside, a little price bite there but I still would buy them again for one tire to last & do it all.

Default Teraflex

Looking at having the Teraflex steelbelted tire made for my GS. I've posted a "give me your intrest" thread here in the tire section, so after i'm reviewed it should be showing up soon. here's a pic of one. It's DOT but they stopped making them quite a while back d/t lack of intrest in the big d/s bikes. That's changed so i'm hoping we can get some folks committed to trying one out on their big Dual Sport bikes.
