I have Anakee's on my GS and my wife and I are planning a trip to Ouray, CO in a couple of weeks. I would like to have TKC's on the bike for the old mining roads around Ouray, but it is 1700 miles roundtrip from home to Ouray. Would the Anakee's be that much better on the road? For those not familiar with Ouray, the old mining roads have a little of everything but mud. A lot of wet and dry slick rock and small boulders and most of the roads have seen no maintenance since the miners were there in the 1800's. We have been on all the roads in the past 20 years in an assortment of 4WD vehicles, but never on 2 wheels.
I have little offroad experience on the GS, but nature is calling! We will be 2-up unless my wife's good judgment tells her to abandon ship! Recommendation please, Barry |

I never got any replies to this post, so I relied on info from the advrider site. I have the TKC80's on the bike and am surprised at how quiet they are on the pavement. I know that the tread life will be less than with a street or dual-purpose tire, but I think off-road that added peace of mind will be worth the price. I'll give a full report when we return home.

Made it back from CO with the TKC80's and they did fine on the highway. A little over 2K miles and they show surprisingly little wear. We were able to get offroad for a couple a hundred miles while in CO and they did a good job. The GS is a real handfull 2-up when off the pavement. Didn't drop it and my only real concern was clutch wear. Some of the areas were so rough and steep that some clutch slippage was required to keep the rpm's up. Would have had the same problem solo. Sadly, they has so much snow around Ouray that very few of the roads were open very far from the pavement. Only 2 passes were open and they were very muddy and rocky.
