I saw a quick message that it had to be approved by a moderator????

And that's were your post went.. into the moderation queue. Sometimes the moderators are out riding their GS so it takes a while before they approve queued messages.

All brand new users start in moderation mode to keep the rest of the forum from having to suffer spammers. Once the moderators have seen an on topic message or two the new user is taken off of moderation mode and is free to post without delay.
