Smile Dilema - Pillion

G'day All,

Wishing for imput from riders who ride two up and what their partners think of the GS. Currently I have an LT and am considering changing to a GS or GSA.
Also interested in service costs compared to an LT, and how easy are GS/GSA to service yourself. Thanks anticipation

Jake

Altho you'll get different answers if you post this question to the LT list (what do they know ), the GS seems to have better passenger ergos than the LT.

I've had customers who tell me stories that after riding on a GS, the passenger prefers the comfort, leg room, seating position etc. of the GS to the "expensive luxury touring machine".

I don't think there's many riders out there who've traded in their GS for an LT, but there's a LOT of riders who have traded their LT for a real motorcycle, ie the GS.

Dealer service costs vary. Most GS riders perform more self-service on their bikes than LT riders, mainly because there's not a lot of body work in the way. However most GS riders still leave servicing to the pros. Not that you can't do much of it yourself....

Default service costs

I can't address the Pillion issue.

As far as service costs go, i do all my own servicing with the exception of the TB sync. I take into the shop for that at a cost of about $40.00.

I will learn how to do my own TB sync someday.

Have 1200gsa And Done 14000k Since June, Most Of It 2up, My Girlfriend Loves It, The Longest We Did Was 960km In 11hours (hardcore Girlfriend) Though She Made Me Stop Every Hour Towards The End, Something To Do With A Numb Bum,
The Main Seat Can Get Uncomfortable, Which I Found Suprising As I Had The 1150 Gsa And Never Had A Comfort Issue.
On The Whole Though Great Bike, Best All Rounder Ever, Even Managed 800km On A Tank Once (i Was Riding With Harleys At The Time) Which If I Hadnt Done It I Wouldnt Believe It.
Go For It, Get The Gs:d

My GF and I rode 520 miles one day to pick up her R1200ST. It was hell on her, but she has a bad back, which is why she rides the ST instead of the GS. It halps her to lean over, so I am not much help to you.

I have heard lots of people who say the GS is a great 2-up bike, and my 14 year old daughter likes it for up to 200 miles at a time.

Jake,
I bought my GS after logging 18K on my Honda ST1300, most of those miles with my wife. She still prefers that we ride the ST when going long distance. However, I have made some changes to the bike and she is liking it better. The changes were a new seat (Rick Mayer), removing the backrest from the Gobi top box (reduce the forward lean), and lowering the passenger pegs with a relo kit from Touratech (improved lower leg angle and increased leverage when stopping). These changes have improved the passenger experience considerably and she is debating whether to take the GS or the ST on our next vacation. Hope this helps,

I've got just over 6,000 miles on my GS and I bought it new in June. I can say that 4,500 miles of that 6K has been 2- up and prolly 100 miles of that 4,500 is 2 up on gravel!!

The key - A BETTER SEAT. We tried the bead rider and that helped, but I bought a Sargeant for both of us and now it made a world of difference. We can do a 400+ mile day where Jules was ready to UN-ass at 200 with the factory seat. As far as ergo's, she loves it and she is only 5'6".

The only negative she has mentioned lately is I added Jesse's and with the Jesse's on the bike, she cannot rest her foot like before, but it is still ok. This is what she told me last SUnday when we made a 300 mile ride.

Hope this helps....
