Question Castrol Oil?

My 2009 R1200GS has 6000 miles and I'll be changing its oil this weekend. I was wondering if Castrol ACTEVO X-TRA 4T 20W-50 was a good choice of oil instead of the BMW oil brand?

Any SG rated oil will meet BMW specs. Some might wonder about using a semi synth at 6K. If your bike has stopped using any oil (or never used much in the first place) Actevo X-tra should be fine.

There isn't a BMW branded oil here in the UK. The recommended oil is Castrol Actevo 20W-50. In fact, I'd be surprised if that isn't what the BMW branded oil is. There's a close relationship between BMW and Castrol and Castrol test their oils extensively in BMW motorcycles. I know this because I have a buddy who is an executive with BP Castrol.

However, at 6K miles, I'd be inclined to use the dino Actevo, rather than the semi-synth X-Tra.

I've used Castrol brand oils in every vehicle I've owned - other than my current Harleys, I use Redline products in them - since the mid 70's with excellent results. 100,000+ miles on a few.
