Default 2010 GS/A pricing for US market?

So I'm wondering what's up with Beemerco. They've released Canadian and UK pricing and bikes are apparently being ordered in those markets. A US dealer I know says that they still haven't sent him any info at all.

Anybody know when these bikes are gonna be available in the US?

Well, at least he told you SOMETHING!

I'll never understand the marketing strategies of some of these companies. They go to all the effort and expense of hyping and promoting their vehicles and then refuse to allow people who want one to place orders. I just don't get that kind of thinking at all.

My business experience has always shown that if you pour resources into developing and promoting a product, then you should have it available, or at the very least take advance orders for it, when the public is most ready to buy it. In this economy, that would seem to be doubly important.

I called BMW USA on the number listed on their website yesterday and the CS rep, who BTW was very friendly, courteous and professional, checked all of her resources and then apologized for the fact that even though prices and ordering info was available in the UK and Canada, the company still refuses to release this info, or to even indicate when it might become available, to its dealers in the US.

The Denver dealer I talked to yesterday seemed pretty put out with them too. He said that BMW has always been non-supportive with its US dealerships and that in many instances the way they ended up finding out things was over the internet or through magazine articles.

Now that's just sad!

Dealer also said delay was for extra testing on new valve
configuration. Internet gossip is so remaining 09's can be
sold.

My dealer indicated in a roundabout way that Beemerco is delaying US release of the '10's so the 09's can clear out too. The thing is, if people want a '10 they ain't buyin' an '09 - especially in the middle of winter. Also, I'd think that the dual cam heads have been pretty thoroughly tested on the HP2's by now too. It's my understanding that the bikes are already being built, so it's a little late to start testing them anyway. IMHO the "testing" story is a total load. They must think that their customers are complete idiots.

I wonder if it's occurred to BMW that if they wait long enough, some potential customers will just go with the new Ducati Multistrada? That IS a pretty cool bike. One of the dealers in my area has already taken deposits for 10 of them. I almost bought one myself, but backed out at the last minute. I believe that BMW is dropping the ball on this issue.

I wonder how much a valve adjustment will cost on this DOHC engine.

Guess: About the same. I can't see the labor to check current values changing at all. If a new shim is needed it doesn't take long to pull the e-clip, the finger follower (which holds the hemispherically shaped shim), swap shims, put finger follower back, put the e-clip back. I'm *guessing* that I could do that as fast or faster than fiddling with lock nuts and adjusters.

Assuming I don't fubar the calculation.

Assuming I have the needed shim.

Over the life of the bike I suspect actual shim changes will be fewer than the number of valve adjustments needed on the current bikes. That could make long term costs less.

Call your friendly Beemer dealer and ask what they charge to do the adjustment on an HP2. It should be the same.

Talked with him on saturday, his guess was in the three hour range.
Might be a little high,i'm not sure.
I will just suffer with my 09 GSA.

An HP2 uses the same adjustments as the '09 and earlier GS. I'm sure jpooch00 meant the HP2 Sport.

3 hours would likely be the time for a full 6K service, not just the valve adjust.
