Blue Smoke

Hello all,

New question. I just had the 1st break in service a couple of weeks ago and rode from San Marcos, TX to Denver, CO shortly thereafter. No problems, ran fine. This morning upon startup a pretty good amount of blue smoke belched out and cleared up as quickly. Would this be considered normal to BMW? Only 3800~ miles on engine.
Anyones thoughts.

If you have that many miles and it is just showing up, you may have a hose pinched or plugged for crankcase ventilation. Was gonna suggest that it might have been overfilled with oil at service, but you have had a lot of miles since that. You might want to look to see if you have oil in the air filter/box. I would certainly want the dealer to know, as you are still in warranty.

Thank you rsmith...I just spoke with BMW and they suggested that if the piston rings were lined up just right, with the split aligned, and it was on the side stand there is a possibility some oil can migrate to cylinder head. They suggest I monitor for the next 10-20 starts, of course I would, and see if it repeats.
Thanks again for the swift advise, I used to own a Land Rover, so I am VERY paranoid!!
Cheers,

There is a service bulliten stating not to overfill the oil but should be filled only to the mid point on the sight glass...
