Default gsa retro fit temp sensor.

hi; just wondering,i have a 06 gsa that is with out any options, has any one tried to plug a factory temp sensor into the can bus system and achive results such as now having an input to the central computer and the the instrument cluster would display the input from the temp sensor?, or am i dreaming that BMW would make all different sorts of central computers and option less instrument clusters. your input to this subject would be greatly appricated.
peter.

From your post it is a little hazy as to what your asking. Maybe
reference to the wiring diagram or explain a little further.

http://www.r1200gs.info/R1200GS-WD2.pdf

BMS-K is the engine computer and ZFE is the chassis computer and
Can-Bus is the serial digital communication system between them or
so it appears.

Pdx;the only reason this retro idea came up was while looking at the parts diagrams i noticed the direct plug in temp sensor, since my bike did not have a temp indicator on the instrument cluster, and i thought that would it be worth a try to first find if there was a point to plug the sensor into. and if there was one would it work, this is the nature of the post.
does BMW set up a electronic system so that it is able to function with all of the options such as abs esa etc. and for the bikes with out the options such as mine are they capable to add to the system.
i guess what i'm saying is, let say you picked up from a wrecked bike a instrument cluster from a bike with unknown options would it work on your s
same generation bike with possibly more options.

I kind of see what your question is and it is just beyond my pay grade.
Maybe someone who has done it will jump in.

There is some reason to believe that the BMS-K and ZFE are
maybe generic and "cross platform" and "they" do not know
know what kind of "brain" they are until their software is
"coded" or called.

Referring to BMW auto tech literature:

Coding vs Programming
"Coding selects a set of instructions that are already present in the
control module. *** a codeable module contains all the programs
necessary for any applicable vehicle version. The programs are stored
in Eprom as "Resident Data". During the coding process one set of
instructions is activated in the control module."

This initial coding apparently applied to 96 to 2006 autos...so maybe
the same on moto stuff.

Just food for thought. I'm no expert on this stuff.

I do not know if what you are asking is possible. I do know that even if it is possible it will still take a trip to the dealer to enable the device for reasons pdxrmccgs stated.
