That's awesome! Sounds like my old K1200RS.

I don't worry about mileage when I check mine. I check the valves annually every Spring when I change the oil, spark plugs, air filter, etc. It only takes 20-30 minutes and often doesn't require adjustment. However, I only put about 6k each year on the bike anyway.

For as easy as a valve adjustment is, I really do believe that it's a rip-off to charge so much for the adjustment anyway. But they replace all of the seals that accompany it and get the torque just right. And if something goes wrong, they have insurance to cover it. I don't.

For the old K bike, I always took her in to the dealer to have the valves checked. There was no way I was messin' with that system. I'm just glad that the clearances were always spot-on.

I never pay any attention to the factory recommended service intervals, TSBs or other maintenance procedures. Change the oil? Nonsense! Just ride it. Nothing lasts forever and all mechanical things will fail for one reason or another at some point down the road.

If I was paying for my valve adjustments, I probably wouldn't do them every 6k. I try to do as much of my own maintenance as possible, and actually kind of think valve adjustments are fun, so doing them myself every 6k doesn't bother me.

Just funnin', Marty. My valves are done every 6K, oil & filter every 3K and all recalls, updates and/or other procedures well in advance of any problems.
