I am considering installing new shocks on my 2008 1200 gs and would like to here from others as to which brand they prefer and why. I am looking at Wilbers and Ohlins I ride about 70% on road and the rest on gravel and fire roads. Your thoughts?

I've got Ohlins on my '95 GS (and Ohlins are on the '05 GS I'm picking up in a couple weeks) and Wilbers on my '98 K1200RS.
Both are excellent. IMO you can't really go wrong with either of them. I think Ohlins has a slight edge in name recognition and dealer base in the US, so theoretically it'll be easier to get them rebuilt/repaired in the future. Having said that, I had a problem with the rear Wilbers shock on my RS and the repair/rebuild turnaround was less than a week. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong. I would do some price shopping & get the one that you can find the best deal on. --chiba |
