Default 15% ethanol

Are there any additives to combat this 15% percentage if the government lets this happen? It seems like its only a matter of time.

Default Ethanol

My dealer tells me that the Chevron gas additive with Techron is the right stuff to use to protect your gas glevel sensor and other stuff from ethanol - and a lot cheaper than the BMW additive. He says to use it like every time you change the oil. Anybody have any experience with this?

Default Sta-bil makes an ethanol treatment

I use the blue stuff in the boat because the older outboard doesn't like even 10%. It's expensive though.

I'm just going to avoid any station that switches to 15% ethanol for anything that has an engine. We have to vote with our feet to get the EPA to stop this pandering to the ethanol special interests.

Default Kind of another point

The increase in production of biofuels like ethanol has increased the demand for corn and grain which has raised the price. I read a report where people in poor countries are now using all their money to buy food (like grain and corn) and are distressed. This is kind of where a good idea for going green backfires and people in poor countries end up going hungry.

You think that something that has a higher input of energy than it yields output when burned in an engine was a good idea to begin with?

Those smart a**** in the corn lobby bribed enough politicians to vote for this shit and got through with it.

Ethanol based fuel only makes sense if you can produce it with a better yield than corn based ethanol. Cane sugar is pretty much the only good source for it. But that wouldn't fill the pockets of the right people in the US, right?

Let me start by saying I'm not all that much for corn based fuels, but the arguments against it always ignore the strategic reasons for its use. From a strategic point of view it makes sense as a locally produced and controlled liquid fuel is always better than a foreign produced and controlled liquid fuel, regardless of its price or efficiency.

You are probably correct in your conclusion.

Default corn vs. sugar for ethanol

The sugar growers have a tariff on brasilian sugar to keep the price high so you can't import the stuff easily. Corn can grow a lot of places but converting it to fuel ethanol is almost a break even on the energy necessaryto make the stuff. It's pretty well documented that ethanol isn't as good as gasoline as a fuel, causes all sorts of problems for systems not designed for it, and is driving up the price of the price of corn and anything that eats it, like beef and pork, as well. The ethanol subsidies are as terrible a market distortion as the sugar tariffs. It costs us all and accomplishes very little.

But, in the spirit of the thread, get the blue Sta-bil ethanol treatment...

The problem with that strategic point is that it doesn't work as the energy that goes into producing ethanol comes a good part from oil ... It's a joke in itself that some politicians jumped on this as it is a "loose loose" situation (at least if you're not growing corn or lobbying for it).

So... What's the best way to prevent damage or loss of performance when using ethanol? I know that the Ducatis with plastic tanks have gas tank damage from ethanol. How do you combat something for your bike that you have no control over?

If you want to take back control of your country, write your congressman. Don't stop writing. Get all of your friends to drown your congressmen in letters. Until we get this country to stand up and riot against our own government (Like Egypt), letters are the only way.

A small victory thanks to the new congress.

OMAHA (DTN) -- Ethanol would take some hits with no money to spend this year on 15 percent ethanol or blender pumps under the spending resolution passed by the House of Representatives early Saturday morning to cut about $61 billion out of the current federal budget.
