Default Gear change/gearbox Advice

Hi everyone from down under
I recently bought my first BMW (2010 R1200GS) and am looking for some advice from some more experienced owners of these bikes.
Compared to my previous bikes (all Japanese) I find the gearbox quite 'clunky' particularly when going into first gear or changing up.
Interestingly when accelerating hard it is much smoother
I have been assured by the dealer that the gear box is perfectly normal so it must be my change technique.
So whats the best technique - stick to quick change or adjust the clutch lever?
Any advice appreciated

BMW transmissions are a bit clunky. Part of this, especially getting into first, is due to the dry clutch arrangement. The transmission is more likely to come to a complete stop with a dry clutch, leading to possible mismatch between the shift dogs and the slots they fill.

The best technique seems to be to lightly preload the shift lever before actuating the clutch. This is especially important when shifting into first from neutral while the bike is stopped. When preloading the shifter you'll find that the bike snicks into gear when upshifting with very little movement of the clutch lever. No need to pull it all the way to the bar.

And welcome to the forum.

Very normal. Goes away soon when foot gets "educated". The link is
to a animation on how the transmission works.
