Default Tried my ABS today

While riding some back roads today I came to a STOP sign at the top of a hill and had to hit the brakes hard. About the same time I see sand spread on the road near the intersection and a car turning from the other direction, so I had to stop or try to. To my surprise the bike did stop with a little quiver on the brake handle with out even locking up the wheels. I was expecting to go down. I was very impressed.

Default Intersting

When I had my accident with my VStrom, I did not have antilock brakes. The guy behind me said my rear wheel was foot in the air front being hard on the front brake, but I remember just before impact, the steering went full left, so the front wheel was locked. It is very difficult to brake perfectly under the circumstances of an eminent crash.

What has me wondering though, is huge compression of my 2011 1200GS. If I reflexively clip the throttle in an emergency and I am turning, will the compression brake cause a slide out? It would be really tough to get enough practice where the crash reflex is to keep the throttle steady.
