I am planning on buying a new GS or GSA just as soon as my house sells (hopefully not too long as the market here in TX is still in decent shape).
I was hoping some of you could give me some pros and cons on the two models. I understand the differences so I am mostly interested in what everyone has experienced riding these machines. I visited the local dealer yesterday and sat on both of them and ride height isn't an issue. I have been riding since I was a teenager and have owned a few different bikes (v-strom 1000 being the bike I've had that is closest in nature to the GS/A). Any input is appreciated. |

I can't really compare the two fairly as I haven't owned both. At least for me, I went with the GS. I didn't need crazy range, and I wanted a lighter more agile bike. The GSA's tank is crazy huge and while I'm 6'1" and could certainly 'handle' the GSA, I didn't care for the extra height. I didn't feel like I would be comfortable when stopping in slippery conditions. I've certainly stopped in places where traction was almost nonexistant and putting both feet down at the same time was required. Only being able to put the balls of my feet down with the GSA worried me.
However, I *would* have liked the bigger windscreen from the GSA and the engine protection - but I don't need to spend $3k to get those on my GS if I want them. Realistically, you'll be thrilled with either one. Other than the windscreen not being tall enough for me on my GS [GSA probably wouldn't cut it either], I adore my bike so far. (Well, other than the stock grips being ridiculously small) |

Both bikes are great. Both groups of owners are passionate about
what they have. Differences are nuances rather than black and white. Here is some archive threads in General Chatter: 1193 1002 670 646 595 Welcome to the forum! Last edited by pdxrmccgs; 13-Mar-2011 at 01:41 PM (779). |
