Default Bump Start

Has anyone successfully bump started their GS?
Installed headlights directly to battery and accidentally left them on all weekend! Tried to bump start, and although conditions were not ideal (confined space) i was unsuccessful (used 2nd gear etc). Just interested to see if it's possible?
Connected a fully charged portable battery pack and just got the clicking, so
connected to car battery and had to keep car engine revs up for 20 minutes before the GS had enough power to fire up.
Ok I know it's a dumb thing to do in the first place, but it seems to take so much power to start. Now its started, it starts and runs fine so I think the battery is OK. Has anyone started their GS with a flat battery using a portable battery pack and if so what was the cranking power of the portable pack?
Unless I change the wiring for my headlights, I may have this situation again. I don't plan to, but you know how it goes, so I'b be really interested in anything you have to say.
Thanks

You will need a VERY long and steep hill if the battery is dead and maybe even then it won't work. You need enough juice to power the engine management system or the bike won't go. That juice needs to be present when you turn the key so engine management can pulse the immobilizer antenna to check that a valid key is being used.

I found that with 1/4 mile of down hill I could start my bike after running a 12 amp draw for about 30 minutes with the engine not running. Hint: when you kill the engine by dropping the side stand your lights and any aux electrics tied to your lighting system will stay on!

My solution is to carry jumper cables.

Welcome to the forum.

Once a battery has been run flat it'll never be the same. do it a couple of times and the battery's finished (due to sulphation which is irreversable)

Default no way you can bump start an EFI engine with a dead battery

If you don't have power to the fuel injection system the injectors won't pump any fuel. If your starter system was dead but the battery you could do it but that's about the only failure where a bump start will work.
