Default storage advice please

We just got back from Denver, picking up a new to us 2008 1200GS. It came with the three standard boxes and we are coming from a V-strom withg GIVI cases. Things feel a bit tight on the new unit storage wise. Can someone give me some pointers on possibly mounting a couple of soft bags to the side cases? What brand? How have you connected them, etc. We would just use them for extended trips.

I assume the side cases were in the expanded position.

Before I switched to the Zega cases I'd sometimes strap a dry bag to the bike... Lets see....

The straps went through the slots at the side of the top plate with the bag sitting on the the Vario case but not attached to it. I do not like or use a top case as I find I can more easily overload the bike without one.

Wunderlich sell bags which are designed to fit on top of the Vario panniers.
