Default Locking Helmet To Bike

Hello,

I have been locking my helmet and bike in a way I have never seen duplicated. Using a U-shaped bicycle lock, I slip the lock through the front wheel and through my full-face helmet and lock the helmet to the front wheel. It is a method I have used for years with several bikes ever since a full-face helmet was stolen. Its strap was cut as it was hanging off of a locking helmet lock. So the question is...........how do others lock their helmet to their bike?

Default Locking Helmet

I use a self-coiling cable lock I picked up at Lowes. It's long enough to go through my jacket sleeve, chin bar on my Arai and the triple clamp on the forks. I expect a set of good wire cutters could make short work of it but it keeps the opportunists at bay . . . . apparently.

I remove the front seat and attach one helmet to each side. There are metal hooks on each side of the battery. I place the metal loops of the helmets through the hooks and lock the seat back into place. Inaccessible without the key.

This is what I came up with. Mounted at bottom edge of seat.
Keyed the same as ignition, seat latch, and cases.

Default Locking Helmet To Bike

I guess I haven't lit any fires here, but then maybe it takes the loss of a helmet to get a bit persnickety about method. Anyway, here is a picture of my method to security. No one is stealing my helmet or rolling my bike away. Of course, this is just park and shop security not an absolute all secure security.

You're probably right about it taking a loss of a helmet to make one go to such measures Guess I've been really lucky. Have never had one stolen in my 47 years of riding all over this country, Europe and Asia. I usually leave it on the bike or carry it with me if I'm parking in an "unfriendly invironment". So far as stealing the bike, I've always figured, if they want it they'll get it. That's what insurance is for.
One can't help but wonder what they did with your stolen helmet with the strap cut off

I kind of evaluate the lay of the land and if in doubt carry the
darn thing. I see a lot of guys that fit theirs in a top box or
pannier. I have also thought about battery operated "baby alarm"
type of deal. Amazon has a bunch of them. I got so far as to buy
a mercury motion switch from Amazon but never completed the project.
The price of good helmets being what it is I think there would be a good
market for some sort of anti-theft device for helmets. I think the response
to your post was a little light because most guys are not sure whats the
best line of defense.

Default Locks?

I have a Nolan 103 and never lock it to the bike. Unless it's raining I leave it on the bike just to tempt fate. You see I hate my helmet and if someone was to walk away with it I would then have to justify a new one. My jacket also sucks, so I don't see any one stealing it.

Default Thanks for responding.

All of us deal with this problem one way or another. I see parked bikes with hundreds of dollars worth of equipment draped around and all it takes is one stupid kid to ruin your day. Still, nobody will get my helmet and putting the u-bolt lock through the helmet and wheel means no theft of helmet or roll away of bike. Really, I think my solution is easy and secure.
