Unhappy Abandoned Dreams

Hi folks: I am the newest of the new here and I am appealing for help and guidance. I have a 2006 R1200GS with 531mi. on it. Thats right just 531. It hasn't been ridden in 4 years and stored in my barn for that time. I bought it new in June of 06 and rode it some and then became ill and lost my job at the same time. I am a survivor but need to sell it, as I desparately need the money.

Problem: I replaced the battery and it turns over nicely but won't start. I removed spark plugs and they are dry. I squirted some fuel in the cylinders and it starts righ up for a few seconds. In other words it is not getting fuel on a consistent manner. I added fuel to the tank so I know it has some.

Questions: Are there directions on this forum on removing the fuel tank and procedures to check fuel supply and injector output. I can't locate a repair manual shy of ordering one and would very much like to work on it this weekend, (independance day holiday). Are there any repair manuals that could be downloaded?
I want to make sure fuel isn't contaminated, and filter is clean. Any thoughts would be appreciated. This will make a wonderful bike for someone, but I'm sure it will sell for more if it is running. Other than that it is perfect.

There are no downloadable manuals that I am aware of. You can start with R1200GS How To Projects for some general maintenance functions. There are also do-it-yourself sites that have pictures of many common maintenance items. Example: JVB Productions

You can also find tutorials for some functions by searching advrider.com. In your search bar enter "site:advrider.com" in addition to you search terms to limit the search to that site.

Thanks Marc: A most helpful response. I have determined that there is fuel flowing out of the tank, (disconnected the fuel line as it heads under the tank and fuel flows freely). I suspect it goes from there to the fuel pump. Injectors are firing, (Placed in a glass jar, but a VERY weak stream). I feel that there most likely is a pump problem. Any easy check that you know of for same? Is there a fuse for the fuel pump?
Thanks again.

I'd more likely suspect clogged injectors than the fuel pump. You can check this by trying to run the bike with the fuel return line -- that's the line that goes to the right side of the tank -- pointing to a large container. If you get a good stream out of the fuel return line it means the pump is pressurizing the fuel rail correctly... or that the pressure regulator is hosed.

Old gas sitting in an injector is not a good thing. I've read that you can get injectors tested and cleaned for not too much money. Never had the job done, though.

The fuel pump and filter are inside the tank. If the fuel has been sitting there for 5-6 years it's gotta be pretty bad. The fuel filter could be partially gummed up.

Good points, one and all. I'm suspicious of the fuel quality also, although it did look and smell ok when I drained some from the fuel line. I like the injector idea and will try the test when I return. I'm on my way to town, Pueblo, 40 mi. each way in hopes to find a Haynes manual at Barnes & Nobel or a auto parts store. There's a price to be paid for living in a secluded paradise.

Will let you know my findings with the fuel line test.

OK, I cranked it over with fuel return hoses disconnected and nothing. Wasn't able to get a repair manual and fuel tank removal looks to be daunting. Have decided to take it to the dealer in Colo. Springs. Does anyone know if this model and year was subject to the FPC recal?. Would sure like this to be a BMW issue as $'s are very tight for me right now.
