Default 2009 r1200gs backfires?

Hi everybody, I'm new to this forum and to the 1200gs, just picked mine up yesterday, with 25000 miles on it.. I noticed that on deceleration I will hear a backfire through the exhaust. Not a lot, just toward the lower rpm's. Is this normal? I have had other bikes that did that, not sure about the bmw.. Thanks, Mike

My 09 does it a little bit...seems to depend on where I got my last
tank of gas. If it gets to annoying I will pull the injectors and
clean and inspect. Some guys have replaced the hall effect transducer
and have reported good results from a timing standpoint.

Welcome to the forum

There is nothing unusual for the R1200GS to rumble a bit on deceleration. My 08 does it a bit...just the sound of a racy engine, which the 1200 qualifies. I did notice that the frequency of the slight backfire lessened after my 6K mile service and valve adjustment. If your valves are scheduled to be adjusted you may want to address with and then reevaluate.

Default 2009 r1200gs backfires? Reply to Thread

My '09 was backfiring as mentioned above. After I installed a Booster Plug, backfiring was virtually eliminated. Placebo effect? I dunno. I've had the Plug on my bike for over a year and seems it works as advertised.
