Default What is this tab for?

I have owned my '05 for almost a year and today noticed something not noticed before. The rear brake fluid container's tube runs to the rear brake pedal switch. If you follow the tube down, it runs by a tab with a hole. What is this tab for; am I missing a part?

I just checked my '09 GSA and my frame doesn't have that tab. It does, however have two plastic clamps that hold the brake line along the same frame memeber where your machine has the tab. I suspect you had a small rubberized clamp to keep the line in place. Go to the specialty fastener section at a Lowe's or Home Depot and grab one.

mikec is correct. You can barely see the cable guide that is attached to the tab in this image from my bike.

I would just use a nylon zip tie for a retainer. Don't tighten too much. Mine has slack in it, so it really is more of a guide, keeping the hose from extending outward and possibly getting snagged.

I've had my '07 for over 4 years and I've done almost all the service on it, yet I've never seen the attachments until you brought it to my attention.

Default Thanks for your help.

I followed suggestions and used a wire tie for a temporary hold on the brake line. I even found the part on a fiche and would order the clamp costing $.97, but for the $8- shipping. My dealer is 106 miles away.........I can wait.

Huntly,

That'll work. As for the clamp, you can get those things at Lowes or Home Depot for about a buck.

Default Brake Line Clamp

Thanks Mike, but Lowes and Home Depot are more than 100 miles away also. And those hardware store clamps require a nut and bolt, while the Beemer part has plastic points that go through the tab hole neatly and lock on. By the way, I live on the south coast of Oregon and just about everything I buy is on-line.

I've been in your part of the world and understand the distances involved. You live in a great area and, frankly, I'm jealous.

Hey Huntly2:

Darn if I didn't observe the same thing you posted about on my 09 GS
yesterday. One stark naked tab with the hole in it same as your pic.

I looked a little closer and found the "hose clamp" had snapped out of the hole and slipped down the hose and was just hanging there. 30 seconds later snapped back in and all is good.

That has to be the strangest "hose clamp" I have ever seen.

It looks like your right heel is what tweaks it. I am going to put a couple of
tie wraps on it.

Thanks for the post.

Call and make sure the dealer has the clamp in stock, then ride out there and get it. It's a pretty good excuse for a ride!
