Cool horn will not quit blowing after washing

wouldnt you know it, a good bath and the damn thing rebels. It seems the horn has shorted and continues to blow upon turning ignition switch on. you can hold horn with hand to muff it and it will quit after about a minute. also the horn button will not activate the horn after it finally quiets. 2005 mod. r1200gs. would like someones input not bull on this. i know i can cut the wires and etc. thanks alan

The switch is not directly connected to the horn. The switch signals the ZFE. The ZFE triggers the horn. You've either got a problem with the ZFE, a problem in the wiring bundle that feeds the horn, a bad horn switch, or a problem in the wiring bundle from the horn switch top the ZFE. There is a connector at the horn. Disconnect it as a temporary workaround. No need to cut any wires. But before you do that....

My first guess would be the horn switch. Not working after it shuts off would be the ZFE turning off the circuit.

Remove the black plastic cover (two screws) on the clutch fluid reservoir side of the switch assembly. There are two connectors, remove them. I'm guessing that if you turn on the ignition and the horn still sounds you can rule out the switch assembly. If it doesn't sound there are two more screws to remove to get the switch assembly off.

I've not had one off so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to test, clean, etc. The horn switch shorts the brown/white wire (hot, I think) to the brown/yellow wire (horn signal).

If you continue to have problems you can spray the switches with WD40 or LPS 1. That will dry out the switch and it should work normally.
