To answer Wiley, and only fair:

Safeco $310:

25,000-50,000 Bodily Injury
10,000 Property
50,000 Passenger
1,000 Medical Payments
10,000 Property Damage
1,000 deduct. Comprehensive
1,000 deduct. Collision
Roadside Assistance

I live in south western Oregon and I'm being ripped-off. When I lived in Washington state, my insurance was $175. I just received an on-line bid from Foremost for $170. Guess who I choose?

Thanks all for responding.

Be very careful with "Cheap" insurance and online companies. Those numbers you listed can EASILY be blown in a minor injuy accident and then the rest is ON YOU! People are greedy and sue happy, a small accident could ruin you for many years!
I pay $350/year (Nationwide) BUT I am paranoid, heavily insured (300K per category), value my agent knowing me on a first name basis and I bundled my bike with my house, cars, truck, etc and also under my $1,000,000 umbrella policy as well just in case I were to really hurt someone or something.

The extra $150 per year I pay is WELL worth the peace of mind when I ride...

Hi Eddy,

You are right in getting enough insurance to protect your assets and my assets are small. Minimum coverage is what I am after. My local agent is obtaining my policy for me and this offers me a better position then dealing directly with the company.

OMG! It's not just your current assests that you are guarding!
It's paying a little extra to put your insurance company on the hook should disater strike! For example, say you pay your insurance to cover $50,000 worth of medical expenses (many people only carry $25K coverage!) if you cause an accident and run into a bicyclist, a child that runs into the street, lady in a Prius, etc...Well, $50,000 is only about a weekends (or less) worth of care if they end up in the OR and the ICU.
If the bill is $300,000, when they leave the hospital, their lawyer will stick YOU with the $250,000 remainder of that bill AND THEN they will also sue you for another $500,000 for loss of time at work, pain and suffering. Even if you are dirt poor and own nothing. They will garnish your pay for years, take away any non-primary vehicles, boats, sportscars, 401K assests, second homes, etc...
It happens EVERY day. The average person would be stunned if they knew how fast a hospital bill can reach $100,000, it's less than a week of surgery and ICU stays!
*I didn't even mention the $15,000 you will spend to get a lawyer to defend YOU from the $1,000,000 suit.

I am not a pessimist, it's just reality! Protect yourself, you are swimming in waters full of hungry, greedy lowlife sharks and their clients who have been raised in a generation of entitlement, who don't pay taxes and are looking for a easy paycheck!

+ 1 on the previous post.

Not mentioned but uninsured motorist coverage is a should have
coverage. In my geographical area although illegal a lot of
folks will drive uninsured and if they cause your accident all you
have is your UM claim from your own insurance company
for any compensation over and beyond medical bills
as most of these folks have no assets.

That Foremost quote of 170 dollars is just not realistic or in
the ballpark for full coverage on a 10 to 15K bike.
