Default Why does this site exist?

Each time I log onto this site, it reads something depressing like "currently, 5 people viewing general chatter".

No offense, but with the existence of the the "G Spot" over at advrider.com (which is currently showing that 220, out of the 4458, people on that site right now are on the Oilhead GS thread alone).

Guess: some folks don't want to wade through eleventy seven posts about the 1100 or 1150 to get some info about the 1200.

And then there is the quality vs quantity thing.

I suspect most folks on this site are on advrider, too.

Marc is right, at least from my point of view. I use both sites and gleen useful information from both. This site has tons of useful information about servicing your 1200 and I used it quite a bit a couple of weeks ago when I did a 24,000 mile service on my '09 GSA. A suggestion, Eddie: Hang around a little and you may may find some things here that aren't readily available on the ADV Riders forum.

I think Marc has it right with that. I like this site because it has a very good collection of technical information relating to the R1200.

I wish I had more to add to this group, but I am new to bmw, and haven't worn out my first set of tires. I do own a copy of the service manual.

I like it here because everyone is polite and helpful.

Sincerely,
John

I second that!

Default Why?

Let me give you an example of why.

There is a post in g-spot right now from a guy who claims to have put a full qt. in his tranny. 5 or 6 guys tried to give him the correct amount but no one till me mentioned that a qt. would not fit. I pointed out that it would just pour out of the fill hole. Lots of good stuff over there but some incorrect info as well along with a lot of filler.

Marty,

I saw that . This site, as I mentioned earlier, has quickly accessible information. Like a dumbass, I put too much juice in my final drive 'cause I read the directions wrong. When I suspected I might have messed up, I posted on this forum and Marc answered almost immediately and set me straight.

Great, thanks for your responses. Good points, I was expecting a very inflammed attack. I am open to the convienence of all 1100/1150 stuff being filtered and getting 1200 info only, thanks.

Hi Eddie,

I see some people getting a little "short" with inmates on other sites but, generally, not here. I'm not knocking them but this site seems to be frequented by genteel people who check their attitudes at the door.

I can answer that one. It's because non-idiots need a place on the internet for the exchange of good information in a mutually respectful forum and this site fills that need rather well. advrider is entertaining for sure, but set your expectations low to avoid the disappointment you'll otherwise feel on a regular basis.
