Definitely vibration... I got to the point where I would use needle nose pliers to squeeze the post of the bulbs into the socket.

Now I'm on HID. Thats ultimately the way to go.

Default headlight issue

I am not convinced it is a vibration thing. I recently purchased a 08 gs with 5200 miles on it that was in showroom condition. On my first trip to bring the bike back home from Denver I lost the headlight bulb in about 300 miles. I believe the GS design creates lots of heat and the bulb manufacturing is not what is use to be. As I asked around it seemed lots of 8K to 10K mile failures. My old V-strom had 41K on the original bulbs but they were huge and lots of space to dissipate heat.

Like lots of others here I replaced my original bulb at around 6,000 miles. Replaced it with whatever bulb the dealer offered, can't really remember if it was stock or not however, at 50,000+ miles that same bulb is still going strong Jim happy

I went through two bulbs in a year on a brand new 1200GS. The dealer replace the bulb connection under warranty. They said one of them lil tiny copper thing-a-mijigs connections in the plug was bent. I also had the issue of the headlight flashing on and off as soon as the key was in the start position. The headlight should not come on till after the bike has started. All was solved when they replace the connection

Red face HID for sure

I have not had too much trouble with my 05, but while i was in San Diego a few weeks ago, i picked up a HID kit from 1off Motorsports.
Tell them what model you have and they will make sure you get the right ballast kits, and here is the big plus. They guarantee there parts, Globes included...for LIFE.

Inexpensive, fit and forget.
