When I read your post I put your name right in with the post. Old Fart, since you may have that name here it is pretty much me too.
Today when working I had a heck of time, as I kept thinking of the GSA, and how much I enjoyed that test ride, and how the weather is so darn nice right now. Prime time for some evening rides and a few weekends, and then I got to thinking I need a smile on my face. So going to call the dealer and tell her to get it ready for me, to ride. Heck it is only money, and I am not getting any younger. |

I was talking about polishing the bike, you were probably thinking of a few beers. That isn't a bad idea either. Maybe someday our paths will cross, I always enjoy meeting other riders, and one can sure never have to many friends.

Well I picked up the GSA Friday evening, and gave it a pretty good test today. From pavement to gravel roads oh yeah I like it and am wondering how come it took me so long to find a bike I enjoy so much. Handles great and seems to want to find a winding road, and twisties. Lot of power, and if you twist the throttle it comes alive fast and smooth. It has one of the smoothest, easiest shifting tranmissions, I have ever had the pleasure of using.
The only thing I do not like as of yet is the seat. It needs something to make it a longer distance riding machine that is comfortable. Going to look on the forum for some ideas of what others are doing for comfort. I put 75 miles on then raised the front of the seat, with the adjustment. Put my gel pad on and Wool cover over that, to see if that did the trick. It helped a little, put another 150 miles of pretty steady riding, then came home and washed the bug parts off. May have to find someone to take a whip to my back side to toughen it up, or a different seat.

I am 2 weeks old on my new to me 2005 r1200 gs. I would of posted earlier but just having to much fun. I have come from Stromtrooper land and have "drank the poison" as they would say. Sold my wee and bought the gs. In my riding group, everybody straddles German bred engineering except me so what the heck. Actually have been lusting for along time for a bigger steed. I test road the Duc multistrada, wow! But not really off road worthy. Well maybe it is,but not for a couple of grand every time you crashed. Rode the S10 and triumph 800 tiger. Both fun bikes but still not there yet. Rode the GS and found what I was missing. Great handling, power up the kazoo, and a smile on my face when I pull into the garage. Only concern was a little high mileage,37000 +/- lucky for me the bike has a brand new servo unit and brake job so not to worry about that 2500.00 fix.

Since I purchased my GS in Nov 2007 I have put well over 32k of 40% on local dirt roads and trails and 60% long distance adventure travels including up the Alaska James Dalton Hwy and Canadian Dempster Hwy.
I have had a lot of bikes in my time and the GS is by far the most fun I have had.
