Default Hello I am new to the GS

Morning, afternoon or evening where ever you are. I have just picked up me GS after 4 years of riding my RT. What can I look forward to?
PS. Never joined a forum before.

Welcome to the forum. You can look forward to a wide smile on your face. You can look forward to almost unbearable urges to go down this or that goat path as you pass them on the road, paths that you'd never, ever consider when you were on your RT. You may even look forward to less fear that you may drop your new baby.

On the down side you can look forward to spending more money on various addition that make the bike uniquely yours. I've lost count of the things I've added to my GS. Touratech and Wunderlich are well represented. I suspect my wife hates it when Touratech sends me a new catalog... all those goodies.

Another thing you can look forward to is better visibility; the bike's height combined with the upright seating position will grant you better visibility forward. Also, you feel like there are are no obstacles you can't conquer with the bike; it looks, feels and rides and pretty much is bulletproof!

Mine puts a smile on my face every day. On the down side, my wife is jealous of my bike!

Smile Great choice ~ well done.

It's a great bike, different from the RT and better in many ways. My mate had an RT and I had a ST1300; we sold them to buy the 1200GS for a circumnavigation of Australia. I also ride a Suzuki DR650. Our experiences are much the same ~ perhaps not quite as comfortable as the RT or ST, perhaps not quite as good in the dirt as the DR, but a great compromise and absolutely the best choice we could have made. They are OK in the dirt if you work at it, although long stretches of sand can be an effort. Great on the open road, especially in places like the Northern Territory where the speed limit is 130kph and you can ride all day at 140-150kph. Great with a pillion, especially if you lower the pillion footpegs, although it can be a bit of a mission to get your pillion onboard.

Good luck and have fun. That's what it is about!

Ps. If you're interested in the blog of our trip, you can find it here: Ken's trip around Australia

I'm new around here too ... I can tell you that I bought the bike for a "special purpose" machine. I am planning a trip next summer to AK and the GSA fit the bill. I did a fly n ride, flew from Pittsburgh, PA to NH to get the bike. Within 1 hour of buying the bike I knew it was going to be more then special purpose bike like I intended! I love the bike ... I've logged over 7K miles since end of July and that's splitting riding time between 4 bikes. You WILL love this machine ...

Here are a couple pictures of mine, post a couple of yours when you can!

Welcome Marine

The GS is a really great bike. A common comment is that it just
puts a bike smile on your face. The more you ride it the more you
want to ride it.

The forum here is a great place to hang out and get information.

There is a wealth of info in the archive pages. They can be accessed
by scrolling down to the bottom and clicking on "Archive" in the blue banded
area.

Smile I am also new to the 1200

I just got a 2011 GS Adv and so far I love it. I also have a F650 twin for a day to day bike. I am happy to see a great forum for the ineviable questions I will have in the future about the 1200. I will apologize now if some of them are stupid!

Default Trade

I was hoping to sell another bike then get a GSA. Had some great riding weather over the weekend I went for a ride but the whole time I was wishing it was on the GSA. My F650GS is at the dealer's getting a new fuel pump installed. For some reason it gets stuck, this last time I was a long ways from home. So couldn't ride it either. May just have to take the hit and trade in the other bike so I can start putting a smile on my face and enjoy the rides on a GSA till winter sets in. It is always a long winter, waiting to ride, if I have a GSA waiting to be ridden will be even longer.
