Default New owner saying Hello...

Hi gang. Just picked up a new 11 GS on Saturday and loving it so far. Got the last one in the shop. Was a magma red model with pretty much all options.
I rode it a few 100 miles today and loved every minute. Can wait to get through the break in miles.

Here is a pic of the new bike....

Welcome to the forum. You will love your bike more and more the more miles you add on. I love the red paint, wish mine was red.

Good lookin' new mount. I was in Texas a few weeks ago and recommend you get out to Big Bend as quickly as you can. You can do the Hill Country on the way down and try it out in the dirt in the park. Enjoy yourself.

Default Welcome

Looks like a lot like the one I got a couple weeks ago. Mine has the panniers, and is a little dusty from riding over the weekend.

How were you told to break in the bike? My dealer told me once it is warm to ride it like I stole it. Of course to vary the speed, no prolonged driving one speed. That has been the easy part, as I have been riding roads a long the Mississippi River that wind around. Great ride and only thing is I wish I had found how great of ride they are years ago. Enjoy I sure am!

Dealer just told me o ride it normally and make sure if go through the gears. I am trying to go by the book and stayed under 5K till I reached 125 miles. Now I have increased to 6K for the next 200 miles and than take to the the limit a few times till is ready to service.
Engine are bullet proof, so do not really think you can do much harm, but I wanted to go by the book. Still, even at 5 or 6K it has been enjoyable so far.

I definitely need to make my way there this Spring. Went on a trip a few years back with my long departed triumph Tiger and loved every minute. Funny now that I think back, all my fellow riders were on GS and the only place I could not follow them was on some fire roads in Big Bend. No longer the case now

Default Welcome

You have made a wise purchase ! There is no other bike. I bought mine new in Feb of 2010 and I now have 28,680 miles. The engine gets smoother by the mile. My girlfriend rode on the back all the way to Vancouver, B.C. from Iowa to see her cousin (she's a trooper). 4309 miles round trip in 8 days. That was just riding out and then back. Not including time in Vancouver. Bike was nothing short of spectacular. 70lbs of gear in the cases, plus two riders and the bike weight was 875lbs. Can't wait for the next trip.

I wish I had spoked wheels though.

Default nice bike

I have just passed the 600mile mark and am new to the gs1200 too. I would like to pass on the dealers advice to get the bmw plastic head guards or some aftermarket protection, I have not dropped a bike for years, and waited a few weeks before adding them. i did not think i would need anything.
last weekend the bike was on the side stand and tilted over on the grass digging in its side stand , i was to far away to stop it and have scrapes on the head guard that would have been on the head.
The scrapes are very slight and are invisible unless you know where to look.

That is the one think I noticed about these bike. They lean quite a bit when on the side stand and they must put quite a bit of weight on it. It still scares me when I get off the bike and use the side stand. When I start leaning over to make contact with the ground, it keeps leaning and leaning.... I just ordered this. NIPPY SIDESTAND EXTENDER R1200GS/Adv (2006 on including 2010 on bikes) (GRP-SSE126GS) - Nippy Normans I hope with will keep it a tad more vertical...

Also looking for some covers as well in addition to the engine bars... just need to clear my credit card first :/

Default rear bag

is that a kriega us10 dry pack on the rear rack in the first photo, I was wondering to buy the us10 for the rear rack or the us20 to go on the rear seat.
