Thumbs up Movie Fastest Indian

Not exactly 1200 related but is General Chatter. I just finished watching the movie "The World's Fastest Indian" with Anthony Hopkins. Maybe everyone has already seen it but this is the first time I have heard of it and what a great movie about a real adventure in the days before internet. If this is old news then my apologies but I think anyone with motorcycles in their blood would enjoy it immensely. I got it from an Aussie and no one I have spoke with in the US knew the title so I thought I would put the title out there on the forum to see if it is popular globally or just down under.
I am not a big forum guy but I am trying to get involved more as I am starting to enjoy reading more of them as I age.

Great movie, especially if you like pissing on lemon trees......

Old Burt must have been a hell of a guy. Nice to see the portrayal of Rollie Free who's only known to most folks as the guy on the Vincent in his swimming trunks on Bonneville Salt Flats, as well.

I've watched it several times. If you like motorcycles you will love this movie.

Default World's Fastest Indian

I downloaded this cool movie from iTunes for about $6.00. When traveling, especially via two wheels, I'll occasionally watch ol' Burt work the salt flats. What a great tale!

I've read some accounts that make Burt out to be a bit of a hard case and not an immensely likeable sort. Of course, that doesn't alter in any way his talent and drive that resulted in his many records.

The movie didn't exactly go into it, but it was poignant that the hard time the officials were giving Munro over his safety equipment, presumably at his first record in 1962, contrasted sharply with Free's "Speedo" run in 1948. As they were practically the same age, I like to think that Rollie had some influence over the outcome.

Default missing it

Watching the movie made me miss riding my bikes in Colorado even more. I do get to ride a small electric scooter here in China which my boss says make me look like a migrant worker. I told him that is okay with me since I came from a small farm. Haha. Combustion engined bikes are technically banned where I work. Counting the days until I can ride again in Novemer. That movie is certainly a keeper!

Must be worldwide interest, for I saw in here in SC a while back. It's a great movie!! Sort of like "Wild Hogs". One remembers the really good stuff!

Coincidently I watched this on a flight from NZ to the U.S. after touring NZ for a few days. Very timely. Read somewhere Anthony Hopkins noted it was one of his all time favorite roles.

I think the only answer is to pop down to New Zealand and give it a go. Great roads, great scenery, marginal weather (especially at the moment!)
