The "gps" outlet is located in front of the fuel tank and is secured to the left side of front tree with tape or zip tie. It is a special female connector that requires a plug that you can wire to your gps hard wire.

As papachiax6 noted there is also a "GPS" socket already near the front of your bike. You'd have to buy the appropriate connector and make a cable to connect the "GPS" socket to a powerlet style socket. |

I would use the gps socket already installed on your bike when new. It is a switched socket so you won't run your battery down if you leave your gps on. I bought the male side from my dealer and wired to my gps hard wire kit as mentioned. You should be able to buy a hard wire kit that includes a fused link to protect your GPS. After all it's only money right. I bought my hard wire stuff from Tourtech for the garmin 500. If you need a pic let me know.

If you are installing a generic accessory socket of the BMW/Powerlet type at the front of your bike you will have to custom make a cable to use use the GPS socket. BMW will sell you a pre made cable if you connect to the main accessory socket. In short: If connecting a GPS or some other specific accessory where you have to do some wiring anyway I'd use the GPS socket. If adding a secondary accessory socket I'd tie into the main accessory socket even though that mean removing the tank for best wire routing. |

I have a 2005 model, with just the one outlet under the seat, so i instaled a Touratech extension panel.
About an hour to fit. It has one powerlet socket, and one hella type socket. The power remains ON, unless you install an inline on-off switch. Simple solution.
