The R1200 RepROM has the same procedure.

The engine management learns over time. The startup procedure just minimizes the time. Eventually, while riding the bike you'll crack the throttle wide open and the engine management will notice the new upper limit.
As to what it does with that information... don't know for sure. Probably uses a percentage of throttle opening to help compute appropriate air/fuel ratios. If it thinks that maximum is less than actual any calculations made using that datum will not be as accurate as they could be. I haven't a clue if you'd notice the difference. Perhaps someone who plays with stuff like the power commander will have a better answer. |
