Default Rear brake drag

Just got done with a 40+ mile ride notice my rear hub was very warm, after carefully feeling around, by reay caliper was so hot i could only barely touch it, along with the disc...

Put bike on center stand and the rear wheel spins but not very free, a good push get may one or two revolutions

Any ideas??

Oh yeah

How are your brake pads? When was the last time you flushed the brakes? Did you have your foot lightly resting on the brake pedal?

Fluid is good, as are the pads. No foot on the pedal

The rear wheel is not going to spin like the front wheel will, it has the drag of the final drive and the gearbox. If you got 2 revolutions out of it nothing is dragging. Remember the rear hub is going to be warm...the final drive is transferring power and some of that energy is turned into heat.

Agreed, 2 rev is very optimistic...
The souce of the excessive heat appears to be from the brakes, i can hear the brake drag (more than normal) when i spin it

Since this bike has more complexbrakes that my other bikes (simple rear disk, not abs or anything) i was wondering the problem could be there?

Gonna start tearing things apart shortly

As kind of a generic answer to a brake dragging question;

Possibly the brake pads are hanging up in the carrier? Dirt and grit can build up, keeping the pad from floating freely.

Cruddy seals around the piston? Every few years I would pop the pistons out and replace the seals and dust boots on my Concours.

Caliper/disc floating properly?

Disc straight?

Extremely hard braking just as you get home? If you stomp on the brake from 100mph just as you get get to the driveway, you might get the caliper to glow...

Dragging pads would be my first guess, too. I'd remove the pads and clean and re-lube the sliding parts of the caliper.

I use a silicon brake grease for the caliper pins and anti-sieze for the pin that holds the brake pads in place.

New boots? Could your right foot be resting on the rear brake lever even a little?
