I find it interesting that BMW doesn't have a tip sensor to shut down the engine if such things happen. Even sluggardly H-D has them, why not here?

Good point...sounds like they may need it. Google says that a bunch of
the major brands have "them" or "it".

Considering the overabundance of electronic features on the GS it is odd that the tip feature is missing. They may have a good reason for its absence, I would like to know what it is. (I don't think the GS is favored for riding the wall at the County fair)

Default The smile is back on my face!

Hi,
I am happy to report that the bike was fixed by BMW under warrantee. The starter was replaced as well as the pressure plate. The starter was broken at the housing and there were bent teeth on the pressure plate..... Some real compression in that boxer motor....

BMW send the head of the tech division to hand the bike back to me. They know of two only two cases where something like this happened and it has happened in the last month.

So the long and short from BMW side is on the boxer motor.
1. When the bike falls over ensure you switch it off as soon as possible.
2. If the bike does not immediately start – do not try again – follow “normal” hydraulic lock procedure i.e. remove one spark plug on each side and crank it to let out whatever causes possible lock in cylinders.

I’ve done just over 200 kilometres since I got the bike back yesterday and no problems! Even though I contemplated to switch to another brand, riding the bike again just reconfirms that I LOVE my GSA!

Although I am still a bit disappointed in the dealership I am really impressed with the general service from BMW and compliment then in coming to the party and fixing everything. I am sure a email to any other brand would not have sorted out the problem the way BMW did!

The smile is back on my face!
