Default What ever happened to Mac Mapsource?

Please ignore this thread if you are a PC devotee.

Have any of you heard any news lately of Garmin's mapsource s/w in a Macintosh format? It was announced a while back and I hate using PC machines with all their quirks. Sorry, don't get you panties all twisted up because I dislike PCs but that is the way it is. I have OSX with switchable Windows XP but window takes up so much memory I would like to roundfile the mess and go straight Mac OS.

Later,

Default "Hi I'm A MAC"

I can download my track log into google earth and watch my rides. It zooms in and follows my path. Too cool. The only problem is I have to boot my mac into windows to download. I loath windows. A modern gps has all of North America on it from the factory, so you really don't need the computer much. I have the Garmin 2610 and you need to load from my windows side...yuck. I used to like Windows but there is no competition. I used windows for about 12 years or so. Before that I used DOS. I was "The Windows Guy" Just recently I bought my first MAC. I think 2 years now. I own 7 MACs now, but still no ipod, I think I'm the last person without one. I own a small business and run everything from my MACs. The difference is stability. Both computers can do anything you want them to do, but a MAC does it almost everytime without question. It took about 6 months to get used to the MAC comming from windows. Notice I changed this into a mac vs ps thread. oops The only thing I can tell you to try is to load windows on your mac. It sounds funny, but the mac runs windows better than any pc can. Is a MAC perfect? No, but neither is that beemer you are sitting on, and you know it is the best bike out there.

I want a Mac version too! Dealing with mapping and my Garmin 276C is one of the few things I still need a PC for.

This still on the Garmin site:

''Garmin MapSource options are only available in a Windows format. In the future, Garmin will offer a solution so Mac computers can work with Garmin devices in 2007.''

Crap really, they've been talking about it for long enough...I had to get myself a pc laptop to be able to use mapsource...

Prefer my imac or ibook any day of the week...

That's only a web updater for the unit software, it is not for Mapsource...still no sign of that although Garmin are promising that it will be this year...

Garmin Bobcat. It is a decent version. You cannot edit track logs, but it has nice basic fuctionally. It is easier to use than the windows version, and "looks" better. I wish there was a full function bobcat.

I've been using bobcat for a coupla months now and they are updating it constantly, so the beta version is improving. According to Garmin UK, the NT2008 maps for North America will start shipping with a full version of bobcat shortly, so we should get the same here soon.

Default It's native on the Mac with City Navigator NT 2009

I was able to install the North America maps on my Mac straight off the DVD.
The Garmin Bobcat software (Mapsource for Mac I guess...) has a nice UI and all but it's not totally stable, I've had a few crashes, remember that it's still a beta version.

Bottom line, I'm still using Mapsource for most things but having Bobcat installed on the machine I use the most is great for looking up places, etc.
I'll do the transition when it becomes a full release (not a beta).
