It was 78 in Pruhdoe when we were there, and really didn't cool off at night. This was not the norm, but it is the only time of year it gets that warm if ever during the year. It did rain at night as well however by the time we did the tour the next day it was just keeping some dust down. Only two of us went north, so we shared rooms and it worked out well. In 17 days of riding from norcal to Deadhorse and back, we only had two days of any significant rainfall, and only one was a torrential downpour! Temps varied from the 40's near Attigun pass on the return today to 107 in Medford on the last day of the trip. Most was comfortable 59 to 75. Additionally, Canada and Alaska do a great job of marking issues with cones and their signage is first rate. You develop a "feel" for their signage and adjust your speeds to match the conditions as you develop a trust in them. They NEVER let us down. They also put up signs that say, "motorcyclist beware of hazardous riding conditions" and such. Most of the Dalton is hardback, and maintaining speed of 5 to 70 is not an issue if your comfortable with gravel. Long sweeping turns abound, and no real surprises anywhere. I'll get my blog caught up in the next few days, and find out why my battery(charge) light came on 10 miles from my house on the last day. |
