Default Death Valley/Paso Robles ride

Not R12GS specific, but a local group had their annual ride to Death Valley and I've posted a trip report at http://www.snafu.org/smbc/trips/2009/dvspring/day1/

Sounds like you had a great ride. Nice pix, btw! Sorry to hear about your spill on that one curve. I ride Hwy 178 4x per week and I'm intimately familier with the road. That is a deceptive curve, and I feel that the sign should be posted as 15 vice 20 mph. I always take it it 2nd gear and am very wary of the garbage you noticed in the lane. Were it always clean, it'd be a peg scraper every time .

I was in Monterey over the weekend, and rode the Nacimiento-Fergusson road for the first time. Holy smokes! My GF on the pillion enjoyed it almost as much as I did

Did you ride Nacimiento-Fergusson west-to-east or east-to-west? I think I prefer it east-to-west. It has you wondering, as you get closer and closer to the coast, when you are going to start going down! Then you hit the steep switchbacks that bring you down to 1. That is the road that made me decide I didn't like my K12LT which led to an R1150RT to lose some weight, which lead to the R12GS to finally find the bike that was right!

Alas, the last time I tried to ride that road it was closed due to fire. I wasn't on the GS that day:

We were on the for the return trip, so it was west to east. The next time we head up that way, I'll try it from the other direction and check out the descent to the coast. Sounds like a blast.

Beutiful pic of your restored R69S. It's a stunner!

We'll be going up Hwy 49 to the 49er Rally next month. That's another road I've never ridden before and we're looking forward to it.
