Default Death Valley ride

The local show-up-to-be-a-member club (any bike, just be on time... we don't wait) went on its annual spring ride to Death Valley last weekend. Trip report with pics starts at http://www.snafu.org/smbc/trips/2010/dvspring/day%201/

Here's a short video of what can be one of the better parts of the ride (but wasn't this trip). It's better in HD if you have the bandwidth.

Nice video. Which camera do you have and how do you have it mounted? I'm looking into cameras for my Alaska trip next month.

Contour HD; the 720p version. They came out with a 1080p version after I bought mine. I'd still stick with 720P for my use.

I've tried helmet and bike mounts. Linky. That trip the camera was mounted this way.

Thanks, I was leaning toward the contour. Your picture quality is very good, plenty good for me. 1080P would be nice but it sure is pricey. Did you order the mounts from them as well?

The helmet mount comes with the camera. The suction cup mount (which can also be used on a helmet) is extra.

BEWARE: stock, the camera can be tethered to the mount. DON'T DO THAT! I had my mount come loose from my helmet. The glue pad stuck to the helmet, but didn't stick to the foam padding in 95+ temps at freeway speeds. Had the camera been tethered to the mount I'd have lost both. I had my camera tethered to my helmet and lost nothing (but did have to pull over to the road shoulder to unhook the camera and put it away). You can see the tether going to a little metal eye I cut out of very thin sheet metal and held to the helmet using one of the visor mounting screws in this pic.

Many thanks Marc, your input is greatly appreciated and I will tether it as you suggested.
I guess $250 is the going price for this, What mount did you buy to mount it the way you have it in the top photo? and if you don't mind where did you buy yours and were you happy with the transaction? Sorry for all the questions, but it's getting close to my trip and I don't need them saying it's in stock then getting an e-mail that it's backordered.
Thanks again.
